Cooking with Hon

Our lovely friend Laura Lee suggested this recipe for Bruschetta Chicken Bake, so last night we decided to try it.

It looks simple enough...

So, the first thing we have to do is stop by our favourite grocery store, the Hairy-Tater!

This one is in Fort Mill where Daddy works. We used to have one in Lancaster, but now we have a Super Wal-Mart and no Hairy-Tater or Winn-Dixie anymore :-(
We'll be picking up some Stove-Top Stuffing. Sorry Kraft, but it's not one of the things we keep on hand! We're more of the Pepperidge Farms kind of people.

Do you all remember this annoying Connecticut yankee from their commercials?

Okay, back to the Hairy-Tater. This is one of the best stores around here. They have pretty much everything, and a lot of cool things you cant get anywhere else. You have to go to Charlotte for a better store than this. The one is Charlotte has things like rattlesnake, venison, and rabbit in the meat department! They even have people in each department like they do at a fancy department store to help you select your meat or whatever!

This is all you need for this recipe.

Chicken, Cheese, Tomatoes, and Stove Top. The bread is just a little lagniappe, or bonus to the meal. The chicken is missing from the picture because it just didn't look right, being raw and everything.
The little Fall table decoration is optional, and may be interchanged with any table dressing that suits your fancy.

The recipe says it serves six, but I know those six wont get enough to be satisfied, so what you're seeing in this picture is double what the recipe says!
Hey there are seven of us, and about to be eight, so it takes a lot to make sure everyone gets enough to eat!

So, you cut the chicken into small pieces and put it the baking dish. Sprinkle the cheese on top. Then mix the tomatoes, water, and stuffing together and spread all that on top.

Now, bake it for about 20 minutes, or so, and enjoy!

This dish reminded us of a dish we call That Stuff
®. That Stuff® is ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, and pasta shells. We call it That Stuff® because a friend made it for us one time when Mommy had surgery. She didn't tell us what it was called, so we called it That Stuff®. Some people have tried to correct us by stating that it's called goulash, but we know goulash. We've eaten goulash, and That Stuff® is no goulash. Maybe it's Ghoul-ash?

Just for good measure, there's no reason that I can think of that you wouldn't make about a half-dozen muffins with some
Streusel topping to go along with this meal!

Yum!!!!!!

Have a GREAT
® weekend!
~Hon!

WELL??? How did it TASTE???

I purchased all the ingredients, except, ahem, not Stove Top. I went with the Great Value brand. Know why? Because the ingredient list of at least 50 foods, spices, and unpronouncable chemical additives is EXACTLY the same as Stove Top. That can only mean one thing, right? It IS Stove Top with a cheaper price.

Let me know how it turned out. Would you make it again?

It WAS good, and it disappeared quickly. Amanda would only eat it if we removed the Stove Top from the top! The general consensus in the Cross household was that it is so similar to That Stuff, that given the simplicity and similarity of both, That Stuff was preferred for both its broad appeal and ease of preparation. It was so popular, in fact, that it was requested for supper on Saturday night!
I think we would do it again, however, I would up the water content to make it more like the stuffing we grew up with. Mom's is denser and more casserole like than is Stove Top with its loose and fluffy texture.
